26th January 2008
Windsurfing: West Mersea
Wind Direction: W-WSW
Wind Stength: 4/5
Surf / Sea State: river chop - OK
Air Temperature: 9
Sea Temperature: 9
Weather: hazy sun
Max Speed: 24.5 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 20.1 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

I got down a bit before 11am. It looked windy but a walk to the water's edge suggested a 6m, and that's what I rigged. It was a bit of a walk to the water but by the time I rigged it was OK, so 3 hours either side of high tide is a short enough walk. Ian and Mark turned up soon after me and about 6 other windesurfers were out and 8 kiters. I changed my fin up after a few runs. The wind was great for 6m; it dropped for about 20mins to be a to marginal at my weight though Ian and Mark seemed fine. Mark and Ian masure 18mph gusting to 25, so out on th eriver it was probably averaging 20mph. It then picked up and I had a good continuous hour. I sailed for about an hour and a half in total, then got cold and packed in, and the wind dropped a bit anyway. The sea condition as a lot eaier than Felixstowe, though not smooth for long enough to build up speed. Mark reckoned it was flat the other side, but that's a long way to go, and longer back if th ewind drops. Did 250m with an average of 22.5knots and 500m averaging 21.5knots
